Description: Write What You Know pt. 1: Famous writer Penny (Barber) arrives at the home of Kyler (Quinn) and is greeted: “Penny?”. “Kyler?”. “Can I give you a hug?”, Kyler asks. “Yeah”. “I can’t believe you’re here. Please, please come in”, Kyler says, helping her with her suitcase.
“I know you must hear this all the time, but I’m honestly your biggest fan. When the local book club said they were inviting you to speak I had to invite you to stay here”, Kyler gushes. “You have a beautiful home”, Penny responds. “Thank you. I know what you must be thinking -I’m really young to have a home like this and you’re right. I inherited it when my parents passed away”, Kyler explains.
“I’m very sorry for your loss”, Penny says. “Thanks, that’s honestly why I like renting out the rooms and having local artists do their art projects here. Just seems silly living in a big house like this all by myself”, Kyler states “Very kind of you”, Penny replies. “Your work really helped me through that moment. I’m lucky I have a great support system, but nobody really tells you how lonely grief can be”, Kyler asserts. “It’s something that stays with you for the rest of your life”, Penny agrees.
“My friends, they’re young like me, and they never really experienced anything like that, so I find myself buried in your work”, Kyler says. “That means a lot”, Penny replies impatiently. “Do you want me to show you to your room?”, Kyler asks. “Yes”, Penny says. “Yes, this way”, Kyler leads her to a bedroom, and Penny sits down on the bed. “Sorry if I’m a little cold. You might not believe it but I’m not always great with strangers”, Penny says.
“I don’t mind that at all. I honestly think I talk too much”, Kyler says. “No, I think you talk just the right amount. You have a warm heart”, Penny insists. “Thanks. Things you wrote about in your books -did they really happen?”, Kyler asks. “Some of them did. Most of them are exaggerations”, Penny allows. “I’m sorry -you must get that all the time”, Kyler apologizes. “Um, I do, but I don’t mind. Why do you ask?”, Penny says.
“The way you write about love…”, Kyler begins. “It touched you?”, Penny wonders. “I don’t think I’ve ever experienced it in real life”, Kyler says. “Sure you have. The lovers don’t always end up together”, Penny asserts. “But don’t they share something secret -something special, and intimacy?”, Kyler asks. “You know in order to really know someone you have to have sex with them”, Penny states. “Do you really believe that?”, Kyler wonders. “Sometimes”, Penny replies.
“I guess when you think about having sex with somebody, it’s never really the same as when it happens in real life”, Kyler says. “Well, it’s how we confront the difference between our version of that person and who they really are”, Penny explains, continuing: “and you -you’ve imagined…?”. “Me and you? I think about it in my head, what it might be like when you arrived, how I might seduce you”, Kyler says nervously. “Really? And…”, Penny begins.
“I’m shy, or you’re shy -it’s different”, Kyler says. “Disappointing?”, Penny wonders. “No, it’s exciting in a different way”, Kyler answers. Penny rises from the bed and gets near to Kyler, saying: “And you still think that we might?” “Honestly, that’s up to you”, Kyler passes the buck. “You’re very beautiful”, Penny says. “So are you”, Kyler responds. Penny kisses Kyler on the lips.
“Is that how you imagined it?”, Penny asks. “It feels like a dream”, Kyler replies. Penny turns around and picks up her suitcase, saying: “I can be who you want me to be”. “Well, honestly I just want you to be yourself”, Kyler says, as Penny starts looking through the clothes packed in her suitcase. “I don’t even know who that is anymore”, Penny says.
“That’s sad, isn’t it?”, Kyler asks. “Maybe. I mean it’s been so long, putting up walls to protect yourself, after a while you lose track of who you are”, Penny says. “Well, I just want you to be you”, Kyler reiterates. “That’s all I want too”, Penny agrees. “Should I leave?”, Kyler asks. “I want you to stay”, Penny says. “Okay”, Kyler whispers, and they kiss again.
“You’re not just doing this for me, are you?”, Kyler asks. “What if I am?”, Penny teases. “Then I don’t want you to”, Kyler says. “I want this. I want to do this. I want you”, Penny insists. “I’m sorry -you’re just…I’m confused”, Kyler turns away. “Just enjoy it”, Penny whispers. “You’re just a little confusing”, Kyler says. “I don’t mean to be”, Penny replies, kissing the youngster again.
“Have you done this before?”, Penny inquires. “Yes, not a lot, I mean…”, Kyler begins. “It’s okay if you haven’t”, Penny interrupts. “Is it that obvious?”, Kyler asks. “You’re young -it’s natural”, Penny reassures her. “Do you want to stop?”, Kyler asks. “When you invited me into your house and into your bed, I couldn’t refuse”, Penny states. Kyler shrugs and says: “You sound like one of your characters”. “Those characters are all part of me”, Penny says, and they kiss once more. Penny roughly pushes Kyler onto the bed and dominates her. Watch the romance unfold, and stay tuned for young brunette Liz Jordan in Part 2.
Penny (Barber) is lying on the couch when young Liz (Jordan) enters the living room, coffee cup in hand. “When did you get in?”, Liz asks, with Penny’s suitcase visible in the foreground. “Late. I didn’t want to wake you”, Penny replies. “You never answer my texts”, Liz complains.
“I was busy. You know how these reading tours are”, Penny responds. “You know how I hate how you lie to me”, Liz stresses. Penny insists: “It’s the truth”. “You’re a terrible liar”, Liz says. “Okay, you got me”, Penny admits, sitting up on the couch. “Who is she?”, Liz asks. “She’s some girl”, Penny says. “A fan?”, Liz inquires. “My books helped her grieve her parents”, Penny claims. “She sounds young”, Liz says.
“Not younger than you are”, Penny retorts. “Am I not enough?”, Liz asks. “You’re my everything”, Penny states, leaning over to kiss Liz, but Liz turns her head away, saying: “Then why the other women?”. “Yeah, I never lied about it…”, Penny begins, but Liz interrupts: “You do lie!”. “I started lying about it to protect you. Do you see them? Are they here? Are they in my house?”, Penny protests. “No, but you write about them though”, Liz points out. “It’s not the same, okay, I don’t know them and I don’t care about them. I love you and I couldn’t do that to you”, Penny insists.
“Why can’t we just be normal”, Liz pleads. Penny laughs and says: “We’re never gonna be normal”. “Well, why can’t we try?”, Liz asks. “’cause I’m not going to be a little housewife. We’re not going to play house”, Penny declares. “That’s not what I’m saying. Don’t put words into my mouth”, Liz insists. “Isn’t it though? You want me to give up everything I’m working for and just stay home with you”, Penny complains. “All I’m asking is that you stop sleeping with other people”, Liz responds. “You know what. You don’t like it, you can leave”, Penny says coldly. Liz gets up and leaves the room, followed by Penny.
Liz is packing clothes into her travel bag when Penny enters the bedroom and says: “Don’t be impulsive Liz”. “You’re the one who told me to leave!”, Liz exclaims. “I didn’t mean it”, Penny insists. “Well it doesn’t matter, does it? You’re not gonna change”, Liz maintains. “Do we have to go through this every time that I leave here?”, Penny asks angrily. “You don’t get it, do you?”, Liz asks. “Enlighten me”, Penny says sarcastically. “I love you. I love you so much that it hurts. It feels like I’m burning up inside”, Liz proclaims.
“I love you too”, Penny insists. “Not in the same way…”, Liz begins. “How can you say that?”, Penny asks. “Are you serious?”, Liz asks. “I’m the first person to admit I can be a little cold”, Penny says. “Yeah, but you’re pretty hot when it comes to warming up to young, hot strangers”, Liz mocks. “That’s different”, Penny states. “Is it? Wasn’t I just one of your girls?”, Liz says. “Did they live here with us right now? No!”, Penny declares. “Why can’t you just try?”, Liz asks. “I didn’t know it meant that much to you. I thought…”, Penny begins. “I told you”, Liz insists. “I thought you were just being idealistic”, Penny claims.
“I want to spend the rest of my life with you, but if it’s gonna be like this I’d rather just leave”, Liz relates. Penny takes Liz by the shoulders and announces: “I want you to stay”. “Really?”, Liz responds. Penny nods, saying “Yeah”. She takes the bag away from the bed and returns. “I’ve behaved badly. No more other women, okay. I promise”, Penny says, sitting down on the bed next to Liz. “I want you to come with me on my next trip”, Penny declares. “Really?”, Liz wonders. “I should have asked you a long time ago”, Penny says.
“That means everything to me”, Liz responds. “I should have invited you earlier. I was just afraid”, Penny admits. “Afraid?”, Liz wonders. “We have our little life here, you know. I can be myself with you, but what happens if you see me with the rest of the world?”, Penny asks. “I love all parts of you”, Liz says. “Even when I’m naughty?”, Penny asks. “You make me mad sometimes, but I still love you”, Liz says. Penny rubs Liz’s arm and says quietly: “I wrote a book”.
“Really? About?”, Liz wonders. “You”, Penny says. “Really?”, Liz asks. “I finished it last night. I’ll let you read it soon”, Penny says. “Why didn’t you say anything?”, Liz asks. “What if you didn’t like it?”, Penny wonders. “I love everything you write”, Liz states. “I’m not used to feeling vulnerable”, Penny says. “You are with me”, Liz asserts. “Because you’re my muse. I can’t lose you”, Penny says, and the women kiss repeatedly, fondling each other’s breasts. Watch the romantic scene unfold…
